Kaila Olin Becomes First Female to Officiate Football State Championship
12/2/2021

RENTON, Wash. (Dec. 2, 2021) — Kaila Olin will become the first female to work a WIAA State Semifinal or Championship game when Eatonville high school faces Royal high school at Harry Lang Stadium on December 4.

Olin, 26, works out of the North Olympic Football Association and has been a member of the Washington Officials Association since 2013 after being awarded the WOA Scholarship during her senior year. Olin is not the first in her family to serve as a high school official, regularly working with her father, Don, who has been a member of the WOA since 1985.

Officiating a state championship game is an honor based on merit, as officials are nominated by their local association which use a rating system throughout the season to determine which officials can qualify. In football, specifically, the WOA also implements a video observation program at the state level which requires an additional evaluation before becoming postseason eligible.
