RENTON, WA (Tuesday, July 6, 2010) – The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) announces that Conor Laffey has been selected as the new Sports and Activities Information Manager. This position is the result of a reduction of staff that was accomplished by combining the media relations and publications positions into one position.
Laffey comes to the WIAA from Rollins College, a liberal arts college located in Winter Park, Florida, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. Prior to that, he was a Graduate Assistant at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia while earning a master’s in Sport Management with an emphasis in Athletic Administration.
A native of Prosser, Washington, Laffey did his undergraduate work at Washington State University where he earned a BA in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations.
Laffey brings over five years of experience in the sports information field to the WIAA. As Sports and Activities Information Manager, Laffey will be the primary media contact for WIAA sports and activities and will manage the design and production of all WIAA publications.
Having grown up in the WIAA system as a three-sport athlete at Prosser High School, athletics have always been a big part of Laffey’s life. After gaining valuable professional experience at the collegiate level, he is excited about the opportunity to work in the interscholastic arena with the WIAA.
“Conor’s strong sports information background, his experience producing programs and media guides, and his enthusiasm for the value of high school programs will be an asset to the WIAA,” said Mike Colbrese, WIAA Executive Director.
Laffey will begin full time employment with the WIAA at the beginning of August.
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association exists to assist member schools in operating student programs that foster achievement, respect, equity, enthusiasm and excellence in a safe and organized environment.
