Three New Members Join WIAA Executive Board for 2019-20

RENTON – Wash. - The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association will have three new members on its Executive Board for the 2019-20 school year as Paul Manfred (Gonzaga Prep High School), David Blakney (Wapato High School) and Tim Bursey (North Creek High School) have joined the Association’s 13-member governance body.

 
Blakney is the Principal at Wapato High School and will fill the position of District 5 Representative. Blakney was a graduate of Wenatchee High School before earning his undergraduate degree from Eastern Washington University and his Master’s degree from Central Washington University. Before taking the role of Principal at Wapato, Blakney was the Athletic Director for two years and has experience coaching basketball, football and softball at the high school and middle school level.


 
Bursey currently serves as the Athletic Director at North Creek High School and will serve on the Board as the Region A Representative. Bursey is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and received a Master’s degree from Gonzaga University. He is in his 28th year in education and has 15 years of coaching experience.




 
Manfred holds the position of Athletic Director at Gonzaga Prep High School and will represent District 8 on the Executive Board. Manfred graduated from Washington State University before receiving his Master’s degree from Gonzaga University. Manfred graduated from University High School where he played basketball and ran cross country and track. He has served the WIAA during his time at Gonzaga Prep by contributing as a member of the Recruiting Committee and the Governance Committee.



The WIAA Executive Board is comprised of 13 school or athletic administrators from WIAA member schools around the state, including one representative from each of the nine WIAA Districts. The first Board meeting of the 2019-20 school year will be held September 22-23.
