WIAA Executive Board Roundup (September 23, 2018)
9/24/2018

RENTON, Wash. – The WIAA Executive Board had its first meeting of the 2018-19 school year, Sunday and took action on several items that will impact the Association.

Approval of Four Schools to Join OSAA

The Executive Board approved the request of Bickleton HS, Glenwood HS, Lyle-Wishram-Klickitat HS and Trout Lake HS to join the Oregon School Activities Association effective as of the 2019-20 school year. While the WIAA has granted the request, the schools will still need to seek approval from the OSAA before the move is official.

The four schools, located in southern Washington, began the process during the 2017-18 school year and requested the transfer in an effort to cut travel costs as well as to provide for complete scheduling across multiple sports.

The move from the Washington association to the Oregon association is the first of its kind and comes after Hermiston (Oregon) joined the WIAA beginning in 2018-19.

3A, 4A Baseball Championships to be Held at Gesa Stadium through 2022

Gesa Stadium in Pasco, Wash., will be the final site for the 3A and 4A State Baseball Championships through the 2021-22 school year. As the final site, Gesa Stadium will host the semifinal round along with the finals and consolation finals.

Video Exchange Timeline Implemented for Football Tournament

With the first-round matchups of the State Football Championships being determined by the WIAA Playoff Seeding Committee for the first time this year, a video exchange policy was approved by the WIAA Executive Board.

Coaches will be required to provide a copy of their team’s three most recent games to their first-round opponent within 30 minutes of the tournament brackets being announced on Nov. 4. If the timeline is not met, WIAA staff will be notified and work with athletic directors to meet this requirement. If the video is not received by 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, the coach in violation will be prohibited from coaching the ensuing game.
