2/12/2018
The WIAA is pleased to announce Stanwood Middle School’s Alen Lara and Pioneer Middle School's Olivia Harle as the January “Give Me 5” Star Students of the Month.
Alen Lara is an eighth grade student attending Stanwood Middle School where he is a huge asset on the Junior Varsity basketball team. Lara works hard to be the best he can be on and off the court, and he is always willing to help others around him, even opponents. Lara is a responsible, enthusiastic, and hardworking young man. He ensures that academics are his first priority so he is able to walk into practice with a positive attitude ready to work hard without cutting any corners. To Lara, it is so much more than just winning, it’s about the daily sweat, laughing, and competing with his teammates while having fun. Lara is cherished by all his peers, teachers, and his coach, George Zeigan.
“He just finished as a true leader on my J.V basketball team," said Coach Zeigan. "He is a leader through action, integrity, and dedication. “Alen would be in the top 1% of all the boys I have had the opportunity to coach in the past 27 years of coaching at Stanwood Middle School," Coach Zeigan continues, "kind, caring, loving, enthusiastic, patient with others. I could never be more proud of a young man than I am of Alen Lara.”
Olivia Harle is a seventh grade student attending Pioneer Middle School in Wenatchee, WA. Harle is an active participant in soccer, basketball, and track for Pioneer MS and is also a part of a club soccer team. Harle has shown she is a strong leader with a great work ethic, respectful of her teammates, teachers, competitors, officials, and coaches. She is constantly trying to better her skills, even when practice is over. Harle demonstrates she is a strong leader by putting her teammates first, always encouraging others to be their best.
Not only does Harle participate in 3 sports, she is the ASB Vice President, upholds a 4.0 GPA, and is a member of the Random Acts of Kindness Club. She is a student exemplifying what it truly means to be a student-athlete. She works hard and it shows in everything she does. Harle wants to be the best and will work hard to get there while inspiring those around her to work for their goals too.
“She shows positive leadership on the court and in the hallways and classrooms,” said Pioneer Athletic Director, Scott Paine. “Olivia is a well-rounded student-athlete who always has a smile on her face and is ready to help in any situation. She truly brightens up the halls of Pioneer every day with her positive leadership style.”
