WIAA Renews Partnership with MaxPreps
4/13/2017

RENTON, Wash. – The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Executive Board approved MaxPreps as the Association’s official Digital Media Partner, following a recommendation from the Digital Media Partner RFP Committee. As the Digital Media Partner of the WIAA, MaxPreps will provide a public platform for coaches and athletic directors to enter schedules, scores, rosters and other team information, free of charge to member schools.

The Selection Committee, chaired by WIAA Executive Board Member Greg Whitmore, consisted of Athletic Directors Chris Hartley (Lakeside HS), Brian Kaelin (Renton SD) and Paul Kautzman (Mt. Spokane HS) as well as WIAA staff members Andy Barnes, Casey Johnson and Andy Knapp. The Committee issued a request for proposal to potential bidders in January, before evaluating submissions and conducting extensive interviews with two qualified companies.

With the decision, the WIAA will partner with a sports media company that has proven its ability around the country as the official partner of 22 State High School Associations. At the state level, MaxPreps has proven it can manage the current and future RPI needs of the WIAA.

“MaxPreps was a tremendous asset during the implementation of the RPI for basketball and have the ability to adapt to our future needs in that area.” said Whitmore. “That being said, we also know that more needs to be done to ease the workload of the AD’s and support staff of our member schools. Through this RFP process, I believe MaxPreps has listened to our concerns and is committed to helping meet some of those needs.”

MaxPreps works with Hudl, Gamechanger, Arbiter and the NFHS Network, among others, to integrate scores, stats and broadcasts. In total, the company accommodates data interchanges with more than 60 different stat and scorekeeping applications.

“Our state is very unique and this process has allowed the WIAA and MaxPreps to become more familiar with each other,” said WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese. “MaxPreps has proven to be a great partner and will continue to work with our state, specifically, in an effort to make the data entry process as streamlined as possible for our member schools.”

Details of the agreement, including the length of contract, are yet to be determined.
