Renton, Wash. – The WIAA is pleased to announce Carleigh Delapp of North Tapps Middle School and Jacob Schuldheisz of Bethlehem Lutheran School as the March “Give Me 5 Star Students of the Month”.
Delapp is an eighth grader at North Tapps Middle School in Bonney Lake, Wash. Delapp always has a positive attitude and demonstrates tremendous work ethic in everything that she does. Delapp is known for being an outstanding leader both on and off the basketball court.
This season, the Bulldog’s basketball team had only three players with prior playing experience. Delapp committed to making herself and the team better, despite a difficult season. Her commitment to her teammates led to substantial improvement on the season.
“Carleigh constantly encourages teammates, she is the first to help someone when they are down and the first to offer congratulations upon defeat.” said David Uberti, the Student Services Coordinator at North Tapps Middle School. “Carleigh shows kindness towards everyone that she encounters.”
A multi-sport athlete, Delapp participates in softball, soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Delapp also excels in band, jazz band, and Red Peppers service club. In addition to her school activities, Delapp volunteers at her local church, working primarily with pre-school aged children.
Schuldheisz is an eighth grader at Bethlehem Lutheran School in Kennewick, Wash. Schuldheisz is a member of the eighth grade Eagles’ Basketball and Baseball teams. He is a young man who can always be counted on by his teammates and coaches to do the right things.
For his outstanding leadership and community involvement, Schuldheisz was also selected as the Bethlehem Lutheran School “Champion of Character” and “Eagle Award” recipient by his teachers and peers.
“Jacob is very respectful to all coaches, officials, and teachers.” said David Haynes, Athletic Director at Bethlehem Lutheran School. “He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes, but is sure to do so in a way that he is still showing respect to those around him.”
The students will be featured on the Activities Matter website and the Middle Level website. The monthly campaign is dedicated to highlighting two middle school students that demonstrate the core principles of the program; honor, sportsmanship, courage, respect, and citizenship. The Activities Matter website was launched at the beginning of the 2015 school year and is designed to be a resource for member schools and their communities to support the case for interscholastic sports and activities. Activities Matter consolidates a variety of dynamic resources, programs, and original content to highlight the long-term benefits associated with student participation in sports and activities.
