The 2012 WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Baseball Tournament will take place May 25-26, 2012 at three locations. The dirt will be raked, the grass mowed, and white chalk will line the fields as teams from all over the state take the field this weekend with hopes of hoisting State Championship trophies.
A first year Tournament Manager, Eric Davis, is in charge of the 1B, 2B tournament. Davis was born in Ephrata and attended Walla Walla CC followed by Central Washington University. He is currently the Athletic Director at Ellensburg HS.
Mel Moore is the 1A, 2A Tournament Manager. Moore has been a Yakima resident since 1971 and this year marks his 20th year managing State Baseball. He attended Wenatchee Valley College for two years (1962-1964) where he played football for the legendary coach Tom Perry and basketball for Frank Mataya. For State Baseball, Moore works alongside Richard Johnson, who is in his 19th year as announcer, and brothers Doug and Gene Evans, who run the scorekeeping and are entering their 20th year with the tournament. Moore has also helped run State Basketball since 1999 and State Volleyball since the fall of 1998 while they have been hosted in Yakima.
The 3A, 4A Tournament Manager is Richland HS Athletic Director Mike Edwards who also oversees 1A State Softball and 4A State Tennis which are being held in the Tri-Cities. Edwards is a graduate of Cal State Northridge and Heritage University. Managing three State events requires having numerous coaches, booster club members, and volunteers to help run each of them.
As part of its expanded coverage of WIAA State Championships, the Association will be offering a live webcast of the entire 3A, 4A State Baseball tournament on the WIAA Network at www.WIAANetwork.com. Games will be archived and available for viewing on-demand after the event is over.
