RENTON, Wash. – The Washington Interscholastic
Activities Association announced the passed amendments for the 2011-12 academic
school year, voted on by the WIAA Representative Assembly.
The
following amendments were passed:
HS/ML
#4: 18.19.2 –
1B and 2B may use eighth graders to salvage varsity and JV teams.
HS/ML
#6: 19.6.0 – Revised criteria for district
eligibility committees.
HS
#9: 52.5.7 – Fifth quarter available for HS
ninth graders who play in three quarters or less in basketball.
HS
#10: 57.4.0 – Allows four quarters of playing
during any two day period in football.
HS
#11: 57.6.0 –
Establishes a 40-point differential game ending procedure in the second half in football. The game
clock shall run continuously for the remainder of the game except for an
official's time-out, a charged team time-out, time between quarters, or
a score. For 1B schools, the game shall be terminated.

The amendments were proposed in February and were discussed
at the Winter Coalition in March.
For the first time, voting for the amendments took place online. The votes
needed to
receive 60 percent of majority approval to be ratified. Full text of the amendments can be

The WIAA
Representative Assembly is comprised of either principals or athletic directors
from member schools in each of the nine districts. They are empowered to pass
legislation and to direct the WIAA Executive Board to carry out its policies.
