Foundation Games Registration


The Foundation Games were approved by the WIAA Executive Board as an option in lieu of budget cuts to foundation-related items such as District Insurance, grants to Affiliate organizations (WSSAAA, WSCA, WOA, etc.), Just Play Fair Sportsmanship Program, LEAP Committee, Hall of Fame, etc.

The Foundation Games allow for one (1) additional game, beyond the season limitations, in the sports of; basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and softball. Each sport has a specific “rights” fee tied to the additional game. The rights fee grants the school permission to schedule this additional game. Rights fees are based on sport and school classification. Schools are required to sign up any time during a sport's approved season for the right to play this additional game and rights fees will be paid at year’s end. Schools will be responsible for their own expenses and will be able to retain all revenues generated from ticket sales (etc) for these games. Initially, games will be limited to varsity teams only and all games will need to be played during the sports regular season dates, with potential for future expansion to other sports/levels.


  1. Rights fee will be paid by the individual school.
  2. Schools to be billed in June for their total Foundation game(s) rights fee.
  3. Schools will sign up through the online sign-up page on the WIAA website at any time during that sports season for the right to play "extra" game - no refunds on cancellations for any reason (rain-outs, etc).
  4. Only athletic directors or district athletic directors will have access to the Foundation Games enrollment site.
  5. The Foundation Game is tied to the individual school and not a specific date. IE. In Basketball, School A could play its 21st game against School B who plays only 18 games. School A would owe the Foundation Game rights fee and School B would not.
  6. Foundation Games are for VARSITY teams only (at least to start).
  7. Foundation Games are for TEAM sports only (at least to start).
  8. Foundation Games need to be played on or before the last playable contest date in that sport, per WIAA rules.
  9. Foundation Games will be offered in the sports below for 2023-24.

Only WIAA member school Athletic Directors, District Athletic Directors and Athletic Secretaries are allowed to register for Foundation Games.
